Viewed by More Than 250 Million When Originally Released in 1997 as a PBS Special
GRAMMY-nominated composer and musician Yanni releases Tribute on March 19, a live concert film that made history as the first concert ever held at the Taj Mahal in India and the first concert by a Western artist at the Forbidden City in China. This marks the first time all 12 performances in Tribute have been available for streaming on video platforms since it debuted on PBS in 1997, where it was viewed by more than 250 million people. The accompanying platinum-selling album went to Number One on Billboard’s Top New Age Album chart and Number 21 on the Billboard 200 chart. Fans can stream Tribute HERE.
Led by Yanni on piano and keyboards, the concerts feature a 27-piece orchestra conducted by Armen Anassian, a seven-piece band, four vocalists and solos by violinist Karen Briggs, guitarist Ramon Stagnaro, Pedro Eustache on wind instruments (duduk, Chinese flute, saxophone), percussionist Daniel de los Reyes and vocalist Vann Johnson. His genre-defying compositions pay homage to music from around the world, blending Eastern influences, gospel, flamenco, West African tribal rhythms and more. Directed by ten-time Emmy Award winner George Veras, the events were two years in the making, resulting in twelve songs captured by 15 cameras and 48-track digital audio.
“These classic concerts took place 28 years ago – at the Taj Mahal in India and the Forbidden City in China. Come live the journey as we align our energies with these wonders of the world, while experiencing a major turning point in the history of the world’s most populous nations. I am very pleased that this concert video is now available on digital streaming platforms. It contains some of the most beautiful and memorable music I have ever created! Enjoy!
…This is a very special one-of-a-kind project, embedded deeply in my heart, never to be repeated. A ‘Real’ Live Performance!”
